During the course of my research I Identified 2 parks that would fit the criteria for a 9 hole disc golf course. The two were chosen over the other parks in Pomona due to the fact that they site didn't include mixed athletic fields and their wide, lengthy and expansive nature of green space. During the observations I noticed that the area of the parks in question for DG implementation had very little foot traffic or recreation. Most of the park utilization and recreation was focused near structures of the parks such as playgrounds, bathrooms, and in the case of Ganesha Park, the water park and amphitheater.

Site Assessments for the City of Pomona Parks

Tony Cerda Park

•This park serves as a good candidate due to low traffic observations over 3 days. Two Midweek, one planned weekend. *

•Wide open space allows discs to be thrown with full strength

•Pros

•Low traffic. Most people hung out in middle of the park near structures.

•Wide open green space

•Trees along perimeter promote shot shaping

•Cons

•Potentially aggressive youth

•Residential neighborhood/school adjacent to park

•Transient population setting up camp on the south side of the park.

Ganesha Park

•Area in focus was the flat-land area excluding the hillsides with dense vegetative cover, an area containing very steep, and often, unstable terrain.

Pros

•This park is the biggest park in the area, serves as the ideal candidate for DG introduction.

•Many trees lining the perimeter of the park provide obstacles for shot shaping.

•Long lengths of uninterrupted green belts.

•Relatively flat topography makes it user-friendly.

Cons

•Greenbelts are skinny (you typically want a fairway to be 60 feet wide

•Flood channel running through the middle of park interrupts natural play progression.

•Transient population scattered about may not be cooperative or aware of discs flight and may get hit.
